Toll Collection Resumes in Texas and Florida

Following Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, toll have resumed in both Texas and Florida.

Tolls were reactivated in the Houston area on September 12 at 4 a.m. However, the Harris County Toll Road Authority has paused the toll violation invoice process. Instead, the authority will be sending courtesy letters to drivers from September 25 to October 6 to request payment for unpaid toll violations. The courtesy letters will be mailed to both EZ TAG customers and non-account holders. EZ TAG customers will have 10 business days from the mailing date to resolve their unpaid tolls, but are being told to act as quickly as possible to prevent violation fees from accumulating.

As of September 21 at 12:01 a.m., toll collections have resumed on all Florida Department of Transportation roadways and bridges. Most tolls have also been reactivated on Florida’s turnpike, but they remain suspended on the Homestead Extension, south of the interchange with State Route 874 (mile post 0-17) to assist Monroe County residents with recovery efforts.

Driver’s Corner

Our thoughts are with everyone who has been impacted by hurricanes this past month. Your safety is our number one priority. That said, hurricane season continues until the end of November, so we would like to share Hertz’s Personal Hurricane Disaster Plan for your future reference.

In addition, in times of extreme rain, flooding, and winds, the safest place for your drivers to be is off the roads. Should your drivers encounter flooded roads, we recommend that they turn around and not risk driving through roads that are covered with water, as it only takes 12 inches of moving water to sweep a car off the road.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding drivers or vehicles impacted by hurricanes, please reach out to your Donlen account manager.

And Finally

In England, a Formula One team is using the technology that keeps racing drivers safe during a crash to develop a new device to protect newborn babies during emergency transportation. The Babypod 20 is made of the same material that makes up a Formula One cars’ bodywork: carbon fiber. Learn more about this innovative new device here.

Have a great weekend and safe travels.
