For the sixth consecutive year, the National Association for Business Resources (NABR) has recognized Donlen as one of Chicago’s Best and Brightest Companies to Work For™.

One of the newest programs implemented this year at Donlen is the Toastmaster Club, a forum for employees to enhance their public speaking and leadership skills.

Donlen’s Toastmaster Club, called “Driving Communications,” is part of Toastmasters International, headquartered in Rancho Santa Margarita, California, with more than 270,000 members in more than 13,000 clubs in 116 countries.

Every year, Toastmasters International recognizes “high-performing” clubs that promote a quality-learning environment, ensure effective and productive meetings, and give Toastmaster members guidance and structure to succeed as speakers and leaders. Less than a year into its club charter, Driving Communications was recognized as a Distinguished Club.

“Toastmasters is a great place for Donlen employees to gain confidence and learn important leadership skills that help us every day when interacting with colleagues and customers,” said Carlos Oropeza, current Toastmaster Club president. “I recall one member saying that she would normally never get up and speak in front of a group. Through the skills that she learned in our club, she recently finished in the top three of a speech contest that our club hosted. It was great to see her progress and development.”

Members develop their skills by having their speeches timed, their “ahhs” and “umms” counted, their body language observed, using the word of the day, and engaging their audience. They further improve by completing projects in Toastmaster communications and leadership manuals. Two Donlen members, Mike Prestia and Eli Charles, earned their Competent Communicator distinction, and have represented Donlen at the Toastmaster Club, Area, and Division Competitions.

Driving Communication officers respsonsible for the Distinguished Club award come from all areas within Donlen. And finally, the convergence of high-end automakers and the bike industry continues. Like their 4-wheel counterparts, these bikes are not for the casual consumer. The Italian-made DeLorean bicycle, launched in May, is rumored to be around $5,500. The latest entry into the market – the One-77 by Aston Martin and Factor Bikes – is being called “the world’s most technologically advanced road bicycle” by the company better known for sports cars. Want one? Better hurry, they are only building 77 of them. Be prepared to pay big bucks; it’s rumored to be selling for about $39,000.
