Don-RappeportNorthbrook, IL – It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Don Rappeport, Donlen’s founder, at the age of 85. Don died peacefully on Friday, April 6, 2012, surrounded by his loved ones.

Don was a true pioneer in the fleet management industry, and his legacy continues today. He and partner Len Vine founded Donlen in 1965, and he served as CEO until he retired in 2001.

In 2008, Don was recognized for his significant contributions to the fleet leasing and management industry with his induction into the Automotive Fleet Hall of Fame. Don remained actively involved with Donlen as chairman of the board until 2011.

A lifelong Illinois resident, Don enlisted in the Navy after graduating from Lakeview High School, where he was stationed on the USS Kimball during World War II. He then graduated from the University of Illinois.

Over the years, Don supported many organizations including Glenbrook Hospital, American Cancer Foundation, American Diabetes Association, and the Jewish United Fund.
