We’re kicking off our 50th year in style!

Events honoring the milestone begin at NAFA 2014

It’s hard to believe that we’re starting our 50th year in business. Founded by Don Rappeport and Len Vine (“Donlen”), we started as a family-run business, focusing on customer service and fleet productivity — two guiding principles still at the forefront of our philosophy.

The Rappeport family remained part of Donlen until 2012 when then-CEO Gary Rappeport retired and we suffered the loss of founder Don Rappeport early that year. Today, we’re part of the Hertz family of companies and have more than 300 full time employees providing a full range of personalized fleet management services.

Over the years, we’ve been recognized numerous times for workplace excellence and exceptional outsourcing capabilities, and we’ve worked hard to bring you technology that sets the standard for fleet management productivity and integration so that you can be successful.

We know that our success depends on yours. We wouldn’t be here without your ongoing support and trust in our capabilities.

“Everyone at Donlen is incredibly proud of achieving this milestone. Over the years, we never lost sight of what’s truly important: our customer relationships,” said Tom Callahan, Donlen President.

“Our customer-centric focus is in our DNA – and will remain so. Our focus on customer service and innovation is why we’ve experienced incredible organic growth over the years,” he went on to say. “We’ve built deep and lasting relationships with our customers and we’re privileged to have a highly committed and knowledgeable workforce. These core principles will carry us well into the future.”

We’re kicking off our festivities with several events coinciding with the NAFA Institute and Expo 2014, April 8-11, in Minneapolis, MN, including the official launch of the latest version of FleetWeb®.

Ericsson Sees ROI with Telematics; Widespread Improvements Throughout Fleet

ericsson-whitepaper-ffEricsson, a world-leading provider of telecommunications equipment and services to mobile and fixed network operators, initiated a six-month DriverPoint® Telematics trial in 420 F-150s ready for delivery.

Throughout the trial, there were widespread improvements in driver behavior, fuel economy, and safe driving patterns.

“One of the more interesting parts of the trial was our analysis of driver oil-change downtime by vendor,” said Tom Sloan, Director of Analytical Product Management. “We presented Ericsson with a cost versus time analysis, and they in turn can direct drivers appropriately. Armed with this type of data, Ericsson can continue to see great results using DriverPoint.”

Unlimited Reporting Available in FleetWeb

Other recent enhancements incorporate responsive easy-to-use toolbars, including the “My Reports” slider menu along the side that keeps your reports a single click away, and the expanded menu selections along the top that display the most-visited areas. (Note: your main menu depends on your permission level.) Log in and check it out! Contact your Donlen account manager with any questions or for assistance.

Driver’s Corner

Here are the staggering facts:

  • Death: 9 people die every day from distracted driving
  • Injury: 1,000 injuries occur every day from distracted driving
  • Crash: 23 times more likely to crash if you send or read texts while driving

Many behaviors qualify as distracted driving, including eating, drinking, talking to passengers, looking for items on the floor, and of course, talking and texting on a cell phone. Check out this quick video for more fact

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and it’s a good time to remind us to pay attention. Be smart when you’re behind the wheel and set a good example for others by not driving distracted.

And Finally

And finally, spring is here and it seems like we need a Lunar Module to get around. If your streets are anything like ours in Chicagoland, you have potholes resembling the surface of the moon instead of pavement. Potholes are wreaking havoc on vehicles, but there are a few ways to avoid becoming a victim of winter’s cruel aftermath. These tips from GM’s Fast Lane can definitely help: keep your tires inflated properly; never drive through standing water as you never know what lurks underneath; and keep your windshield and headlights clear to increase your visibility. Hmmmmm, maybe moving to a warmer climate is the best solution. Nah, we actually like the snow. If only it didn’t mess with the roads.

Have a great weekend. Safe travels
