Fleet Emergency Fuel Solution

donlen-fleet-emergency-fuel-solutionsMany of our customers provide vital emergency and life-saving services and supplies. Downtime due to lack of fuel during hurricanes or other emergencies can not only mean loss of productivity for their business, but also contribute to serious situations in affected areas. Having a fuel program partner who can provide critical fuel deliveries can mean the difference between an active fleet and a fleet that is stalled until conditions normalize.

Donlen and our fuel program partner Comdata can help ensure your fueling needs are met during times of emergency such as hurricanes or other natural disasters.

The National Hurricane Center will be gearing up for another season beginning June 1, 2013, so take action now to ensure that your company minimizes downtime or loss of business.

There are two options available:

  • Mobile On-Site Fueling: Your trucks are lined up and a mobile tank truck fuels directly to the vehicles.
  • Bulk Fuel Delivery: Mobile vendor fuels your on-site mobile or fixed tank.

How does the program work?

Once you identify the locations that could be affected by hurricanes in all coastal areas, you simply fill out a spreadsheet with some basic information, including:

  • Basic contact info
  • Estimated gallons needed
  • Type/types of fuel needed (unleaded or diesel)
  • Fueling window (time fuel is needed)
  • Location of tanks or vehicle staging area (depending on which option you choose)

After those steps are complete, Comdata will work with you to develop an appropriate fuel program, facilitate all fuel vendor communications, monitor the hurricane situation, and ensure deliveries are made whenever possible given area conditions. They remain in constant communication with you and the fuel vendor to identify emergency needs.

Driver’s Corner

The weather is warming up around the country, and that means more bicyclists on the road. Bikes are considered vehicles, and as such, have legal rights to be on the road, following traffic laws (in fact, bikes are prohibited from riding on sidewalks in many areas). There are ways that everyone can share the road – and the responsibility lies with both cyclists and drivers. These 10 rules for drivers (from Edmunds.com) give great information for driving around bicyclists.

And finally…

And finally, do you know how Google’s self-driving car works? If you said that it gathers about 750mb of data about its surroundings every second you’d be correct. If you want a more technical explanation, well… um… you can Google it. All kidding aside, it’s really an extraordinary piece of technology: the computer surpasses the human when driving – especially when you think about the number of distractions that the human driver is prone to. But it’s currently not without challenges. Snow-covered streets tend to pose a problem as visual “cues” such as lane markers may be obscured, and a closed road – from an accident or through a construction zone for instance – may present challenges. How will the car know to observe a hand signal from a traffic cop instead of the traffic light? These issues will be resolved as the technology evolves, but in the meantime, we think this is pretty cool: a legally blind man becomes self-driving car user #0000000001

Have a nice weekend. Safe travels.
