Is Your Fleet Prepared for the Upcoming FMCSA Electronic Logging Device Mandate?

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) electronic logging device (ELD) rule requires most motor carriers and drivers who must state their hours-of-service (HOS) logs to use ELDs by December 18, 2017. Whether you have 100 fleet vehicles or 1,000, updating every vehicle in your fleet with a certified and registered ELD is no small feat. Fortunately, Donlen has partnered with J.J. Keller to offer a solution that will assist fleet managers and professionals in meeting the requirements. Read this blog post to learn more about the ELD regulations and Donlen’s ELD solution.

National Stop on Red Week Coming Up August 6-12

National Stop on Red Week takes place August 6-12. Police, city officials and drivers are taking to the streets and airwaves to let people know it’s better to stop on red than to race ahead. Reckless red-light running kills hundreds and injures tens of thousands every year across the U.S.

National Stop on Red Week is dedicated to educating Americans about the dangers of running red lights with the hope of reducing the number of collisions, injuries and fatalities that result from this risky driving behavior. For more information about National Stop on Red Week and how to get involved, visit the National Coalition for Safer Roads.

Motorists are urged to remember these important rules when approaching intersections where there are traffic lights:

  • Yellow lights are an indicator to slow down and prepare to stop.
  • Come to a complete stop before turning right on red.
  • Scan intersections and approach with caution, even if the light is green.
  • Yield to pedestrians. The right of way is theirs.

Driver’s Corner

With torrential rain and tropical storms hitting many areas in the U.S. this past week, and likely to continue throughout the summer, it is important to remember to exercise caution when driving in wet weather just as you would during a snow storm or icy conditions.

In an article for Forbes Magazine, the Red Cross offers several tips and reminders for driving during summer storms. For example, make sure that you check the forecast for storms before hitting the road, check your tires, drive in the right lane, and be extremely cautious when approaching standing water. Read about these tips and more, including what to do should your car become submerged, here.

And Finally

‘Tis the season for hot dogs, and there’s nothing more synonymous with hot dogs than the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile. Recently, Oscar Mayer expanded their fleet to include not only the Wienermobile, but also a wiener car, a wiener scooter, a radio-controlled wiener, and a Wienerdrone. Take a look at the expanded Wienerfleet here.

Have a great weekend and safe travels.
