Three Ways to Succeed in Fleet

Fleet data is all around us, and managing the right data is key to reducing costs and running an efficient fleet. In addition, fleet professionals have to understand the different components that make up a fleet program. If you are looking to take charge of your fleet program, you are in luck. Here are three ways to take control:

  1. Fleet Management: NAFA Fleet Management Association provides Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) certification. CAFM is the only college-accredited professional designation in the fleet industry. The program covers eight disciplines:
    • Asset Management
    • Business Management
    • Financial Management
    • Information Management
    • Maintenance Management
    • Professional Development
    • Risk Management
    • Vehicle Fuel Management

Taking advantage of these disciplines allows you to understand and control all components of fleet. To learn more about CAFM certification, visit http://www.fleetcertification.org/.

  2. Better Informed Decisions through Data: When data is properly harnessed, it should lead to increased insight, more informed decision-making and improved efficiency. With fleet technology rapidly expanding what you can measure, many organizations are becoming overwhelmed. If you are attending the Fleet Technology Expo in Long Beach California on Tuesday, August 25, join Donlen’s Tom Sloan, manager, telematics products, during “Big Data vs. Actionable Data: Putting Information to Work.” This session will arm you with the knowledge needed to prioritize your data and put the processes in place to make it work for you.
  3. Alternative Fuels: The alternative fuel market is diverse and still developing, so understanding the various alternative fuel options that would work for your fleet might seem like a daunting task. The key for success is:
    • understanding key differentiators
    • recognizing what changing fuel prices mean in the long run
    • relating your alternative fuel plan to your company’s objectives.

Donlen’s Amy Blaine, vice president – strategic consulting, analytics and sustainability will be hosting a NAFA webinar called “Alternative Fuels” on Wednesday, September 2. Register for the webinar here.

Taking advantage of these three opportunities allows you to master these different fleet components which will lead to lower fleet spend. Have additional questions?

ADOT Unveils New Technology

Truck-Monitoring-System-Side-Image
Donlen is not the only one increasing their use of technology to make life easier for fleets, theArizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is using technology to improve safety during the inspection process. ADOT Enforcement and Compliance Division officers are utilizing Truck Screening Systems Technology to check for weight, permits and registration compliance at some rest stops along the highway.

Sensors built into the road will notify non-compliant commercial vehicle drivers to pull into the designated area for further inspection. Compliant drivers will be able to by-pass the area creating less traffic jams, and saving the driver and company time and money.
